AIR PURIFIER REVIEWS - compare air purifier brands

April 5, 2004 -- Vision Air Purifiers

Vision air purifiers are similar to the Biozone air purifier technology but use a more advanced technology that combines the radiant power of ultraviolet light, superoxide ions, ozonide ions, and hydro peroxides for air purifying and sanitizing.  Vision Air Purifiers are made in the USA by RFG using technology that has been developed by RFG over more than 10 years.

The most popular systems are the Vision 1000 Air Purifier and the Vision 3000 Air Purifier.  The systems I have are both black and have a simple but effective design (see below).  Both plug into a regular household outlet and are extremely quiet making almost no noise.

Vision Air 1000

Vision Air 3000 Air Purifier

Vision Air Purifiers  are powerful purifiers that decontaminate and sanitize the air and surfaces by destroying biological contaminants like bacteria, viruses, mold, mildew, fungi, and their spores, harmful fumes, smoke and chemical gases, removing harmful particulates, and neutralizing all unpleasant and offensive odors.  And as for noise, they are not just quiet, they are nearly silent!

RGF's Vision Air technology surpasses HEPA and other filtration systems in many ways because it can eliminate pollution as small as .001 microns.  Vision air purifiers are advertised to remove the following.

Particulates: dust, dust mites, pollen, pet dander, skin flakes (food for dust mites), smoke particles, allergens, etc.  Microbials: germs, microscopic bacteria, viruses, fungi, mildew, mold spores and mycotoxins produced by a fungus, as small as .001 microns.  Gases/Chemical Fumes: VOC's (volatile organic compounds), chemicals like benzene and formaldehyde, cigarette smoke, plus fumes constantly escaping from construction, carpets, upholstery, drapes, cleaning materials, dry cleaning and more.  Odors: animals, pets, food, body, cooking, smelly sports and camping equipment, shoes, litter boxes, cigarette, cigar, pipe smoke, smoke damage, etc.

Overall I recommend these air purifiers especially for those sensitive to ozone and noise since the Vision Air 1000 and Vision Air 3000 air purifiers produce very little of both.  If you are do not mind the production of negative ions and a very small amount of ozone, the Vision Air Purifier is a great cost effective choice.  Compared to other brands such as the sharper Image or Honeywell HEPA air purifiers, these systems purify much larger areas for much less.  Moreover they produce very little power much the same as the Biozone Air Purifiers but use a more advance purification system.

March 21, 2004 - Biozone Air Purifier Review

Comparing air purifiers has become a sort of oxymoron these days as everyone attempts to do the same thing.  But, most of those sites are trying to sell you something, I am here just for the information.  Ill break down two major manufacturers with the pluses and minuses to help you make a better decision in your air purifier purchase.

Biozone Air Purifiers:  i.e. Biozone 500, Biozone 1000, Biozone 2000, Biozone 3000, And the rest of the Biozone home air purifiers.  As you can see, these air purifiers are made for a specific square footage.  For example, the Biozone 1000 air purifier is designed to purify the air in areas up to 1000 square feet in normal conditions with 8 to 10 feet ceilings.  If there is heavy smoke such as in a bar, then double the output and the biozone 2000 air purifier is recommended.

Biozone air purifiers work by producing a "Purifying Plasma" which is a combination of negative ions and a small amount of ozone.  They are not termed ozone air purifiers but do produce some ozone which about 2% of the population is sensitive to.  Biozone air purifiers do not filter the air and do not work in the same manner that HEPA air purifiers do.  Many people are opposed to air purifiers that work in this manner since they introduce new components / molecules into the air unlike a HEPA air purifier that filters and draws the air through it.  But unlike HEPA air purifiers that must have powerful fans and produce noise, Biozone air purifiers are silent - almost.

Biozone air purifiers use a UV lamp / bulb to at a specific range to produce the "purifying Plasma" which then enters the room and oxidizes and removes contaminants with the ozone.  The negative ions produced also remove contaminants.  As you can see this is a totally different method of purification as compared to HEPA air purification.

Overall the reviews i have read on the Biozone 500, Biozone 1000, Biozone 2000, and the rest of the Biozone home air purifier family have been mixed but positive.  Most Biozone air purifier reviews have been favorable highlighting the low noise level and the ease of operation.  The price also seems to fit most budgets.

So should you buy a Biozone air purifier?  Well, if your application is a bar or bingo room, this air purifier would do a great job.  If on the other hand you are putting one in your newborns room, the jury is still out on ozone production for air purification (see my Feb 19, 2004 article).

If you have a review please send them to me at luke@blogmyair.com - next time we will discuss the HEPA air purifiers, I guess you could call them the antithesis of ion air purifiers like the Biozone ones we have discussed.
