Fireplace Owners are Fighting Back Against New Law

If you live in the Bay Area, you better start finding alternative sources of heat as law makers have recently passed a ban on burning wood in your fire place on certain days. These days are called Spare the Air days, and are designed to limit air pollution by stopping you from burning wood in your fireplace for over 24 hours. These spare the air days take place from Nov. 1st to Feb 28th.

Not all citizens are taking this new law lying down though. One is citing that is against the constitution, as he practices a pagan religion that requires wood and incense burning daily. He cites that by trying to limit that, law makers are preventing him from his constitutional rights of freedom of religion.

Other citizens are struggling with inadequate heating systems, and break the law as an attempt to try to stay warm during the cold months. District officials say that examples like these are not exempt. The only exemption that gets made is whether or not wood burning is your primary source of heat.

First time violators get away with a mere warning, while second time violators get written up with a citation and steep fine. After the first, Spare the Air day, occurred 11 people received warning letters from inspectors who were scanning the horizon for tell-tale signs of fire usage.

While many people called and complained about the new law, a surprisingly larger number were calling to report their neighbor’s use of chimneys and fire pits. A totally of 82 complaints were logged with neighbors reporting on other neighbors.

Incase you are living in the bay area, there is a reasonable solution to this problem, an electric fireplace. Electric fireplaces add warmth, heat and ambiance giving you all the benefits of an actual fireplace fire without any of the hassle, or in this case tickets.

Perhaps one of the best electric fireplaces on the market today, is the Fire Sense 02682 stainless steel wall mounted electric fireplace. Realistic flame effects and up to 5,000 BTU’s of heat will provide you with everything you need to stay warm during the winter.

The 02682 uses patented 3-D technology to produce a lifelike flame that dances and places just like you are used too. Its tempered class surface adds greatly to this effect as well. There is a built in thermostat and a fully functional remote control so that you can operate it when and where you like. Best of all it, mounts to your wall eliminating floor space and giving you a great place to focus you and your guests attention.
